Most school libraries in Indonesia, IF they exist, are non-functional
The initial focus was on the early elementary grades

The YLAI has established sustainable, functional libraries in 241 schools in Indonesia
YLAI now operates practical library activities in 5 of Bali’s 7 districts
YLAI has trained more than 56,000 students and teachers to date
YLAI has produced 25 culturally relevant topics & Indonesian hero picture books using local artists & authors
Picture books are engaging and encourage additional discussion, curiosity and learning
The Green Corner is a feature of YLAI Libraries
The Green Corner is a designated library space that focuses on Environmental Awareness
Reading and discussing the environment encourages student participation & responsibility
Teachers are trained to build meaningful lessons and projects using the library’s resources
Sue asked if books could be produced digitally.
The response was that YLAI may do so in the future but the current focus is on handheld books.
Frank asked, “How do we make environmental awareness stick”?
The response was “by hands-on project-based learning.
